A Foot Callus (Hyperkeratosis) or Corn and Rheumatoid Arthritis Resulting in Pain

People with rheumatoid arthritis often develop calluses on their feet. A callus is “often the source of severe pain in those patients reporting symptoms of walking on glass, pebbles, or stones.” Helliwell P, the Foot and Ankle in Rheumatoid Arthritis (2007). As mentioned in a previous blog post, high plantar shear forces acting on plantar tissue may be the cause.

Our consumer product ENGO® and our professional product ShearBan® are designed to reduce friction and shear forces that damage tissue. We would be very interested to learn whether people with rheumatoid arthritis or clinicians have found success using ENGO® or ShearBan® in this context.

  1. David,

That is wonderful to hear. Was this a patient of yours who had Rheumatoid arthritis or someone who suffered from Haglund’s?

    All the best, David,
